I Missed the Boat on Medium, But I’m Not Going to Let That Happen With BitClout
The power now belongs to the creators.
Like many of us, I started writing online when the pandemic hit.
For a novice writer, my first article did well: 300+ views. More than the $2.37 I earned with it, it gave me the confidence to publish my thoughts online and infected me with the writing virus.
In 12 months, I made $1200+, which averages at $100 per month. Not bad if you take into account that only 5% of the writers here cross that mark. Being in the top 5% wasn’t something I expected to achieve when I started out last year.
The fact I didn’t reach absolute fame on Medium isn’t due to the algorithm or editorial choice. It’s due to my lack of consistent output. I experienced great periods of writing and I built a decent audience. Still, I never reached total mastery.
The recent changes in the Medium Partner Program don’t particularly excite me: when someone signs up using your link, half of their membership fee goes to you. Perhaps, if you have an audience the size of Tim Denning — it pays off. Otherwise, it’s just trading pennies on a platform that continues to let their most loyal contributors down.
