I Missed the Boat on Medium, But I’m Not Going to Let That Happen With BitClout

The power now belongs to the creators.

Like many of us, I started writing online when the pandemic hit.

For a novice writer, my first article did well: 300+ views. More than the $2.37 I earned with it, it gave me the confidence to publish my thoughts online and infected me with the writing virus.

In 12 months, I made $1200+, which averages at $100 per month. Not bad if you take into account that only 5% of the writers here cross that mark. Being in the top 5% wasn’t something I expected to achieve when I started out last year.

The fact I didn’t reach absolute fame on Medium isn’t due to the algorithm or editorial choice. It’s due to my lack of consistent output. I experienced great periods of writing and I built a decent audience. Still, I never reached total mastery.

The recent changes in the Medium Partner Program don’t particularly excite me: when someone signs up using your link, half of their membership fee goes to you. Perhaps, if you have an audience the size of Tim Denning — it pays off. Otherwise, it’s just trading pennies on a platform that continues to let their most loyal contributors down.

I’m not completely turning my back on Medium. It’s still the platform that provides me with the most exposure, but it’s time to expand my horizon and explore alternatives.

That’s where comes BitClout into play.

I’m not the only one. Top writers such as Tom Kuegler, Clement Bourcart, Dianne Sullivan, Ash Jurberg, and Tim Denning are joining me on this journey.

My good friend John called BitClout the Wild West and I agree: we don’t know where the platform is headed, but I’m excited to be part of it and take a chance with it.

Here’s why.
